Minot Air Traffic Control Tower
➥ Projects ➥ Minot Air Traffic Control Tower
The Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) is required to provide consolidated operations for air traffic control for all arriving and departing aircraft. Visibility of the entire runway and aprons caused the ATCT to be located on an isolated site across the runway. The strong sculptural shape of the ATCT gives it a distinguished presence on the otherwise featureless site. It is visible from some distance and will become a landmark for those working at the base.
The lower elevator/stair tower core of the facility is constructed of load-bearing pre-cast insulated concrete panels. The exterior walls of the upper control tower portion of the facility are clad with aluminum curtainwall framing and composite metal panels. This facility also contains a training simulator and classrooms for the training of control tower personnel. HVAC is provided by a ground source heat pump system.
