This 188,000 S.F. facility is the H.Q. for an agency that provides weather related products to all Army and Air Force units world-wide. As a weather modeling and forecasting group, AFWA does extensive computer processing, using data gathered from satellite and other weather instrumentation. Four Directorates occupy the facility, in addition to Command and Control offices. Additional contracted functions bring the total of working groups in this facility to 77, with a total employee count of 1,000. The building contains a SCIF, and other classified work areas. Current regulations for Anti-terrorism and Force Protection are being followed. There is heavy COM infrastructure in this building, as well as robustness and redundancy for mechanical and electrical systems.
The project is LEED Gold certified, the first such building constructed by the U.S. Air Force. A large, 2-story atrium feature at the front of the building is used for gatherings, employee dining, and a Heritage History Center for the display of artifacts about weather operations from the AFWA archives.
